Sophie Ell is a UNM doctoral student in American Studies, where her areas of concentration are popular culture, Southwest regional studies, and critical race studies. Her current research revolves around comparative cross-cultural fictional, poetic, and visual representations of loss, death, and grief. Traditional and experimental art, counter culture, and alternative music provide a strong influence on her academic as well as creative work.
